About the research

The objective of this research is to develop a guide for agencies that operate and maintain traffic signals to help ensure that their investments in automated traffic signal performance measure (ATSPM) systems can be sustained in the long term. This guidance will address limitations in current ATSPM systems, including the lack of metadata standards, the need for data management policy guidance, and opportunities to prepare for future innovations in traffic operations, such as connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), connected vehicles (CVs), enhanced detection systems, cloud computing, and so forth.
